Every year August 15 is a proud moment for all its citizens to celebrate their country’s Independence with pride and glory. Amid the ongoing pandemic, India is celebrating its 74th Independence Day on Sunday, August 15, 2021. This celebration is honoured as ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.’ There would be flag-hoisting at Red Fort with PM Narendra Modiji addressing the nation live.

President Ram Nath Kovind will deliver his Address to the Nation on Saturday, August 14 on the eve of India’s 74th Independence Day at 7 pm, and will be broadcast on All India Radio (AIR) and telecast on Doordarshan and other news channels.

The Independence Day ceremony at Red Fort in Delhi would incorporate the presentation of the Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police to the Prime Minister; unfurling of the National Flag accompanied by playing of the National Anthem and firing of the 21-gun salute; showering of flower petals by Air Force helicopters; the Prime Minister’s live speech; singing of the National Anthem; and the release of tri-coloured balloons at the end.

The “At Home” reception would be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. Specific guidelines have also been recommended for celebrations at distinct levels in the States and Union Territories. “It would also be appropriate that COVID-19 warriors like doctors, health workers, sanitation workers, etc., are invited in the ceremony as recognition of their noble service in fight against COVID-19 pandemic,” said the Ministry.

Union home ministry has issued strict instructions to the states and Union Territories to follow necessary preventive measures while organising the Independence Day celebrations.
