Top seed Serena Williams clinched her 19th grand slam singles title in Australian Open final on Saturday with a 6-3 7-6 (7-5) victory over Serena’s sixth title at Melbourne Park was an outstanding win.
At the trophy presentation Williams expressed, “Growing up, I wasn’t the richest, but I had a rich family in spirit and support. Standing here with 19 championships is something I never thought would happen. I went on the courts with a ball and racquet and hope, and that’s all I had.” “I’m so honored to hold this 19th trophy.”
Serena sealed the 1st set when she broke Maria for the 3rd time and then continued her momentum in the second with a strong service game when she put pressure on the Russian’s serve. Maria battled to remain in the match and did have opportunities to break, but Serena easily reached back and crashed back a succession of huge serves to get out of trouble. She finally sealed the victory in the tiebreak on her 3rd match point when she powered her 18th ace and then celebrated hr win at the net.
Sharapova told, “I congratulate Serena on making history and on playing some of her best tennis.” “If I’m getting to the finals of Grand Slams and setting myself up to play a match against Serena, maybe you’re telling me I’m wrong, but I’m happy to be in that position.”
Congratulations and best wishes to Serena Williams for her amazing victory!
