Cardiovascular disease is an exhausting condition for many Indians. This has led to a serious cause of death in the country, as per the National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC), and with every passing year, the death numbers are increasing. This disease refers to various kinds of conditions distressing the blood vessels and the heart.
The primary risk factors of cardiovascular disease cover physiological reasons such as hypertension, stroke, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia; social and environmental factors like stress, air pollution, and financial inequalities; and behavioral factors such as smoking, physical inactivity, and poor diet. These are the main causes that people are prone to face cardiovascular disease. Specific risk factors directly influence this fatigue disease. One is modifiable risk factors which one can pretty much control, such as their weight, and the other is non-modifiable risk factors that one has no control over it, like the genetics. Your day-to-day preferences can put a bigger impact on your cardiovascular health.
Let’s know about the five preventive steps one should follow religiously in their lifestyle, in order to ward off cardiovascular disease!
1. Healthy Nutrition: Cardiovascular disease can be prevented with proper nutrition and diet. One should have a diet rich in green vegetables and raw fruit servings, whole grains, nuts, herbs, omega-3 fatty acids available in fish. Olive oil should be preferred for cooking. Foods high in nutrients and less in calories should be chosen. Avoid alcoholic beverages, foods with more amount of alt and sugar, and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.
2. Regular Exercise Practice: Practicing exercises for 30 to 45 minutes per day is recommended. Walking for half-an-hour to one hour in the morning or evening can keep you active. Yoga and different kinds of exercises under the guidance of an instructor can keep you fit.
3. Weight Loss Management: Maintaining a proper weight is essential to lessen blood pressure and to avert cardiovascular disease. A right amount of calorie intake in your diet and regular exercises can help you control your weight and reduce your chances of having this disease.
4. Lower your blood pressure: Higher blood pressure tends to enhance stress on your cardiovascular system and lead to heart disease. One needs to take the necessary medications prescribed by the doctor to keep the B.P. in check. One can lower their blood pressure through no smoking and no alcohol consumption, limit salt intake, diet, weight control, and exercises.
5. Quit Smoking: Smoking cigarettes put a huge impact on the risk for stroke and heart disease. Too much smoking builds up fatty substance in the arteries that gradually hardens the arteries. Smoking also harms your body organs and hence they will fail to function with a high risk of hitting with cardiovascular disease. Thus, stop yourself from holding cigars to smoke often.
Therefore, it is advised to follow the above preventive steps if one doesn’t want to experience the cardiovascular disease at all. If anyone is undergoing this disease to some extent, they should quickly execute the right treatment with the help of an expert doctor’s medications.
