Talking of Onam Sadhya, it is a traditional vegetarian lunch that is served up on a green banana leaf to the family and guests who visit their house. It is extremely delicious and also appears like an art piece. The varied dishes guarantee happiness, health, and wealth; one big feast immersed in taste, enjoyment, and good cheers. The particular order of serving mainly begins from the way the leaf is placed along with the tapering end towards the left side of the guest.

Onam Sadhya covers different colorful and tasty dishes that are placed on the two halves of a banana leaf. On one half of the leaf, Sambhar, Red Rice, Sakrai Upperi (jiggery chips), Thenga Chamandi (coconut chutney), Chekro Upperi (jackfruit chips), Pazham Upperi (banana chips), Uni Appam (sweet appams), Narengya Achar (lime pickle), Uppu (salt), Manga Achar (mango pickle), and Pazham (banana) are placed. Sadhya too includes the medicinal value which is also light to digest. Every vegetable approaches in a boiled form as everything is being well-cooked. When the meal ends, the right side corner of the banana leaf should be folded upwards to show that your meal is finished and you’re satisfied by the diner. If any improvement needs to be done, you need to fold the upper side of the banana leaf towards your side.

Grand Onam Festival (AajTak)

Earlier during Onam feast, almost 60-plus homemade dishes were prepared, but nowadays because of the busy schedule, one can manage to make 15 to 20 dishes only. One should ensure to make one or two items each from gravy dishes, savories, pachadis, and desserts.
