A short time ago, heart attacks were mainly faced by older people. Suddenly it took a drastic turn where young adults under 40 are hit with heart attack sufferings. Especially during the pandemic times from 2020, heart attacks have enhanced drastically in youngsters who are in their 20s and 30s with some losing their lives.

Known to be a myocardial infarction, a heart attack occurs without signal when the supply of blood in coronary arteries lessens because of a blockage which leads to the decay of muscles due to deficiency of oxygen.

According to Dr. Sandesh Prabhu, Consultant–Cardiology & Electrophysiology, Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, “Being young doesn’t mean one is resistant to heart attacks. We are noticing the number of youngsters experiencing cardiac issues nowadays has increased tremendously.”

Causes behind Heart Disease

Doctors reveal that the most significant reason behind heart disease is the youngsters’ increased amount of smoking. The second factor is their higher level of mental stress. The third is the poor physical activity and inactive lifestyle that most young men and women lead these days. Few crazy fitness buffs often tend to consume steroids which has higher chances of heart disease and stroke.

Effective Practices to prevent Heart Disease

When young adults get aware of the risk factors that would give rise to heart disease, can implement quick steps which can defend their health and also ward off cardiovascular disease.

  • Stick to five days a week regular physical activity like walking, running, treadmill, swimming, cycling, for 30 to 40 minutes. Increase the timing with the passing days. A good workout keeps your mind and body active throughout the day.
  • Take mini-breaks in between your work, stretch out yourself, or go for a small walk to talk to your friends to lighten your mood.
  • Add 200-250 gm green vegetables and fruits to your diet with less intake of salt. Avoid soft drinks fully, including protein shakes.
  • Do not take stress at all for your work purpose. Pick up a hobby after your work finishes, be it reading novels, or, playing badminton or sketching.
  • Stop smoking as it is a vital factor behind heart attacks. Even one cigarette a day can hamper your heart. So if you are one of those who are addicted to smoking, take therapy to avert that habit for the wellness of yourself and your family.

“AI and ML-based technologies can be applied for allowing the diagnostic method to detect heart disease quickly where chances of survival are possible at a higher rate than medical treatment by a heart surgeon.”

Doctors say that if you religiously follow these important risk factors, there is a  great chance of 90 to 95 percent of you not experiencing heart problems. Hence, follow the above practices to control heart disease but at the same time take guidance and medication from experienced heart specialists for better suggestions and treatment!
