Republic Day, being a national holiday is celebrated across India on 15th January. The day is marked by a parade and a tribute to the Indian armed forces. Republic Day commemorates the adoption of India’s constitution on January 26, 1950. With its implementation, it replaced the Government of India Act, which had been imposed on our country up to that point.
On this day, the people of free India are treated to the splendor of a parade showcasing and depicting the essence of Indianness. It is truly a rewarding experience to watch the army, navy, and other groups of armed forces march in unison. The best part is that the nation’s President and Prime Minister both attend these spectacular celebrations.
The Main Attractions of the Republic Day Celebrations in 2023
1# The Parade: The parade at Rajpath is the main attraction of the entire event on this day. In general, nine to twelve regiments of the Indian Army march past the President, saluting him. This parade begins with the presentation of gallantry awards, followed by a display of various tanks, missiles, and other military equipment. Following that, other armed forces such as police, home guards, and the National Cadet Corps march towards Rajpath to demonstrate their zeal.
2# The Tableaus: After the army and its entire contingent have completed displaying their military force, tableaus depicting the diversity of Indian culture, including classic performances, folk songs, and bike shows, make their entry. Overall, it’s a remarkable show of fantastic performances. Months of rigorous efforts go into all of this, and the end result is truly exceptional. There are approximately 22-30 floats that perfectly represent the diversity of Indian culture.
Republic Day 2023 Chief Guest
For the first time, India has invited the head of this Islamic nation. Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will be the chief guest at the January Republic Day celebrations in 2023. The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt will be the Chief Guest at our Republic Day celebrations for the first time.
This year, 26th January is an auspicious day with the Republic Day as well as Basant Panchami celebrations. Basant Panchami or Vasant Panchami, also known as ‘Saraswati Panchami’ or ‘Shri Panchami,’ is a well-known festival in India. On this day, Hindus perform Saraswati Puja to worship Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of wisdom, knowledge, the arts, and music, with zeal and joy.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Republic Day!!
