Sono Motors, a German company, debuted the Sion EV, an accessible self-charging electric vehicle that uses solar energy to recharge itself. The Sion uses solar cells built into its body panels to collect energy from the sun. As Sono chose an MPV shape for the Sion, it can also comfortably carry a family.

Features of Sion solar EV

  • Sion solar electric vehicle has 456 built-in half cells that can extend the vehicle’s battery pack range by up to 245 kilometers weekly. Both slow charging and fast charging are supported. 
  • The electric MPV can charge up to 80% using a public fast charger in approximately 35 minutes. 
  • On a single charge, the 54 kWh battery pack provides a range of 305 kilometers overall.
  • Sion’s interior features a huge interior, a big trunk, a digital infotainment screen, and a 10-inch touch touchscreen in the middle, continuing the minimal frills design style.
  • Sion can function as a bi-directional wall box, which enables you to utilize it as a power source for your home for up to five days. 
  • Other EVs can also be charged using the Sion. 
  • This capacity is expanded to include charging appliances and devices up to 3.7 kW while engaging in outdoor activities.

The Sion solar EV, which will price roughly USD 25,000, is anticipated to be on sale in 2023. (Rs 20.59 lakhs approximately in India).
