Surat Considered a Smart City of India

Surat is known to be the sparkling city not only in Gujarat, but also in India. So you don’t need to be surprised much if it has already rose as the smart city of India. That’s certainly amazing about the tremendous expansion the city is coming up with in a speedy way. Hats off to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for changing Surat into a smart city completely!

The Union urban development ministry has categorized into three vital portions including re-growth of present urban sprawl, retrofitting construction of 500 acres (complete makeover of old city), and Greenfield townships as pre-requirements for Smart City, Surat.

“Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) have already begun on providing an entire facelift, where retrofitting is concerned. The Surat Diamond Bourse [SDB] fits in the re-improvement and Greenfield township necessities,” told by municipal commissioner Milind Torwane.

SMC has even begun water metering in particular regions of Varacha and Gopipura of old city area, thus amending the water delivery network in Chowk Bazar area, and also changing the tube-lights on Rajmarg area with energy-effectual LED lights.

As stated by the most recent guidelines, the model implemented for expansion is a public-private partnership. This growth will be finished within three to five years, with the support of initial contribution of Rs. 1,000 crore that is offered by the government. Most segments of the funds will be recuperated after five years time only.

Surat Smart City is already generating smart IT solutions for many public and private services, sharp traffic administration, etc.

Three Cheers to Surat for becoming our country’s smart city!
