The whole audience was full of laughter as the hosts didn’t leave a chance to tease the actors and keep the event fun-filled for the invitees. The three main movies of last year that rocked at the Filmfare comprised of Dangal, Udta Punjab, and Neerja, thus bagging most of the awards in various categories.
Amitabh Bachchan presented the Lifetime achievement award to Shatrughan Sinha, and Subhas Ghai and Sonakshi acclaimed them.
Aamir Khan wins the Best Actor Award for Dangal
- It was 16 years back when Bollywood actor Aamir Khan won the Best Actor award for his film Lagaan in 2002, and again in 2017 Mr. Perfectionist won the Best Actor award for his Dangal movie. In Lagaan, Aamir Khan, a rural guy wearing a rustic cloth, built a cricket team and trained them fully to compete against British to relinquish off land tax of a Gujarat village that belonged to them. In last year’s released Dangal in December, he was seen yet again in the form of an ex-wrestler (also a father) donning a rustic cloth, and groomed his two elder daughters perfectly to become wrestling champions at world level and national level, winning gold medals for their country.
The remarkable and inspiring Dangal movie forced Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand to declare it tax-free. Dangal which is based on Phogat sisters and their wrestling achievements, won three major awards in Filmafare 2017 – Best Actor award [Male] category (Aamir Khan), Best Film (Dangal), Best Director award (Nitesh Tiwari), along with Best action award (Sham Kaushal) for Dangal.
Udta Punjab the Second Popular Award Winner
- Abhishek Chaubey’s direcotiral Udta Punjab that released in June, 2016, focused at the insurgence of drug abuse in Punjab, and how the people who used drugs were badly affected. This movie too won few awards, including Best Actress award (Alia Bhatt), Critics’ award for Best Actor [Male] category (Shahid Kapoor), and Best Debut Actor [Male] category: Diljit Dosanjh.
