Independence Day is a yearly ceremony commemorated every year dated on 15th August, when India got its freedom from the hands of British rule after many years of drudgery. It was during 15th August, 1947 when India became independent from British Empire, and thus pronounced as national holiday across the country. Independence Day has a huge importance for Indian people.

 People across India will celebrate their Independence Day on Monday, 15th August. The country is paying a tribute to all the freedom fighters who had fought and given their lives for the Independence from British enemies. Remembering these fighters, people salute for their sacrifices on this day.

India’s 70th Independence Day- What’s Special

According to the media news, India’s Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi has planned to launch a special program known as AZADI70 ‘70 Saal Azadi- Zara Yaad Karo Kurbani’ [represents 70 years of Independence: Do Recall The Sacrifice]. Through this campaign, the goal is to make the people fully aware that first is the country, and second comes the individuals. They should also remember those big freedom fighters of the country who have struggled for the freedom and sacrificed their lives too.

There will be a “Tiranga Yatra” for a week that is arranged to inspire the people about patriotism and nationalism. It starts on 15th August by the Parliament members, state legislatures, all the BJP members and lawmakers, and celebrities holding the Indian Tri-color flags. It will commence from Arunachal Pradesh border [covering Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir] to the Pakistan border.

Celebrations of Independence Day at Red Fort

The country is having a National holiday on 15th August. Independence Day is celebrated in all the Indian states and union territories with immense zeal. President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee offers a speech on the evening before Independence Day so as to address the country! It is on the day of 15th August when India’s Prime Minister hosts the Indian flag in the morning at the Red Fort, New Delhi. After the flag is hoisted, National Anthem is sung with the salute given to the flag and freedom fighters’ sacrifice. It is followed by gun-shots fired for respect the formal occasion.

Then the Prime Minister gives a long speech that is telecast on television across the country. This time PM Narendra Modi has choose to engross people, instead of just watching as audiences! At last flying aircrafts fly spreading the tri-color in the sky, and tri-color balloons too are flown in the air.

India’s Independence Day Commemoration      

In every part of the country, Independence Day is observed with patriotism and ardent enthusiasm. This big day is celebrated in distinct schools and colleges, cultural institutions, residential colonies, offices, and events. The program begins with the unfurling of the national flag, speech, and cultural activities. It also includes singing of patriotic songs like ‘Jana Gana Mana’, and ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by a musical concert on patriotism.

Many of the government buildings including many buildings hoist national flag. The morning program also covers drills, cultural programs, fireworks, balloon flying, and flying the pigeons in the sky with an Independence Day message. Dog show is also organized where security dogs salute in front of their audience, and show their safety tricks too.

On this day, children wear tri-color outfits and participate in singing patriotic songs, and speak poems, patriotic messages and slogans like ‘I Love India’, waving the paper flags. The air is mesmerized with festivity feel. All the citizens of the country unite together to sing songs and hymns in harmony, in memorial of great freedom fighters.

Doordarshan, and English and Hindi News channels showcases the Independence Day program held at Red Fort, Delhi, and in many other states of the country. On other channels, well-known patriotic movies are shown, such as Border, Rang De Basanti, LOC Kargil, Chak De, Swadesh, Mother India – 1947, Kranti, Sarfarosh, Lagaan, etc.

AR Rahman to Perform at UN on I-Day Celebration

India’s 70th Independence Day will be observed at United Nations General Assembly on 15th August. On this occasion musical maestro, AR Rahman will be seen performing at a musical event held in the evening. It is known that veteran singer MS Subbulakshmi exhibited her performance last at October, 1966. Now for the second time the popular singer of India, Rahman is all set to perform here. Rahman honors marvelous carnatic vocalist, MS Subbulakshmi at an enriching event.

Global leaders will be attending the cultural event, including Minister of State for External Affairs, M J Akbar. Besides the cultural fest, the celebrations will also cover a photo exposition that signifies the birth anniversary of the legendary carnatic vocalist at UN headquarters, presented by India’s Permanent Mission.
