The digital or social media team of Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai is known for coming up with creative ways to make people aware of the corrupt practices of the Maharashtra Government and the BMC.
A while back, the digital team smartly used the hype around the Ranbir Kapoor – Alia Bhatt wedding to bring people’s attention to the negligence of the ruling party in Maharashtra. Now, the team has created a meme based on the popular Amazon Prime Video series ‘Panchayat’ Season 2 to start a discussion about how BMC has gotten away with so much corruption in the past several years.
The meme shows a character speaking to Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar) and telling him “Bharosa rakhiye, purane khiladi hai”. As per the post, when a resident of Mumbai asks the BMC, “Itna corruption kaise kar lete ho?” (“how do you get away with so much corruption”), the BMC replies with the aforementioned dialogue from the show.

The meme tries to exemplify the fact that BMC has been engaging in corrupt practices for so long that now it neither feels shame nor a sense of fear while doing a scam or putting the hard-earned money of the taxpayers in its own pocket. The post, which has been put on Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai’s social media handles, has been going viral and that serves as a testimony to the fact that the common man resonates with it.
It is interesting to go through the comments of the social media users on the post. While one wrote “Killer” and added a laughing emoji to it, another user commented how the term corruption has become synonymous with the BMC. Time and again, BMC has reiterated that it doesn’t engage in corruption. However, looking at the state of infrastructure and several other elements in the city, the general public would find it difficult to believe that the BMC is honest. The response to the post has, anyways, given a clear indication of what the common man thinks.
Judging by the response generated by the post, this is another ace up Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai’s sleeve. The digital media team of the party has played an important role in strengthening its online presence and one looks forward to the kind of quirkiness they come up with in their next campaign.
