The 17-year-old teenager from South Texas, Andrea Sierra Salazar is a high school student who looks very beautiful, at the same time enthusiastic in doing modeling in her free time. This dynamic girl only at 17 came to know that she is undergoing cancer. Her world might have come to zero on knowing that she is a cancer-hit girl at such a young age, but she turned her life in her own way by becoming a super-model for photographer Gerardo Garmendia.

Andrea conveyed, “As I didn’t face any side-effects, I won’t have been aware of cancer, till I felt like a ball growing around my neck which hurt me, when I touched my neck portion. I was thus rushed to the hospital by my mother.”

Her doctor came across a lump behind Andrea’s neck and diagnosed that a tumor has developed on her collar bone, and another tumor has grown in her chest. Andrea was identified with Stage 2 nodular sclerosis Hodgkin Lymphoma that made her life upside-down. The moment she began her treatment, she lost her hair because of her chemotherapy treatments which was painful too.

So mother Adriana recommended her daughter to concentrate on modeling that would keep her engaged and in happy mind. On her mom’s suggestions, Andrea tried out her looks with various wags, but still she was anxious on her lost hair. Andrea said, “I was a very confident girl before chemotherapy began. But when my hair began falling, I looked to myself in the mirror and felt that I lacked the confidence which I had earlier.”

Undoubtedly, Adriana was a proud mother who shared her daughter’s story to many photo agencies and well-known photographers, also saying that modeling was Andrea’s love, hobby and passion since she was 13-year old. Hearing this, Gerardo Garmendia, a popular photographer booked Andrea Sierra Salazar for photo shoots. He agreed to click the best photographs of Andrea.

When she gave her amazing photo-shoot, Andrea doesn’t feel awkward on her bald look. In fact through her photo-shoots, she wanted to motivate the young girls who were undergoing chemotherapy in her hospital. Salazar says, “When I look at these small girls, their faces show their lost confidence in their own selves. In this way I just want to up-lift their confidence.” “I want to prove them that your hair-fall or physical features do not describe your identity, in fact your inner beauty is all that matters, your kindness, the way how you treat your loved ones exhibits you as a humble person.”

Photographer Garmendia told, “Andrea very openly shared the other part of her life, without feeling any embarrassment. She is an inspiration to me and many girls as she bravely dealt with her cancer. It was a pleasure for me to capture this phase of her life as she revealed herself excellently in photo-shoots. The whole coverage and experience was just magnificent. When she looks back to her struggling days which was tough, but she will have some beautiful moments in her kitty.”
