So, the year 2019 presents two bigger celebrations of our country on August 15, Thursday, one is Independence Day and the other is Raksha Bandhan; and to add spice to it, Bollywood movie Mission Mangal releases on the same date. The combination of three gives greater happiness to the people across India to rejoice their holiday.

  1. Independence Day celebrations on August 15

India is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday, August 15 across India to pay their humble tribute in the remembrance of all the freedom fighters who have contributed their lives and fought for the country’s independence. People gear up for the grand celebrations in their cities, saluting the India flag, performing plays and dances on patriotic songs.

New Delhi will witness the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort with a flag-hoisting ceremony followed by singing the national anthem and a 21-cannon salute to pay respect to freedom fighters.  Soldiers and armed forces will be conducting march fast. The Tricolour is hosted by Prime Minister. This will be PM Narendra Modi’s first address to the nation from the bastions of Red Fort, after returning to power with gaining a huge majority in the latest general elections to Lok Sabha. All the capital cities of the country are celebrating 73rd Independence Day flag hoisting along with Chief Ministers’ speeches and other cultural celebrations, including all the schools and celebrations.

To celebrate August 15 with joy and fervor, President of India Ram Nath Kovind addresses the nation on August 14 at 7 pm. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will host the flag at 7.30 am on August 15. The Independence Day will be telecast Live on all the News Channels, DD National, and Live Streaming online including apps like Vodafone Play, Airtel, Hotstar, Jio, YouTube.

This year’s 73rd Independence Day is special in other ways like:

  • IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is conferred with Vir Chakra, the third-highest medal awarded during the war.
  • Rashtriya Rifles sapper Prakash Jadhav (posthumously) and CRPF’s Harshpal Singh have been given the Kirti Chakra, the second-highest peacetime award.
  • There were 14 Shaurya Chakras, eight from Army, one Navy, two CRPF and three from the police.
  • For the first time, on 73rd Independence Day, Jammu & Kashmir hoists the India flag. BJP has announced to rejoice “Jashn-e-Azadi” on this occasion.
  • Chhattisgarh set a new world record as it unfurls the world’s longest Tri-Colour flag of about 4.5 km length on 11th of August 2019 supported by a chain of thousands of people in Raipur.
  • The Lieutenant colonel and Indian Cricket Player MS Dhoni will unfurl Indian Nation Flag in Leh on 73rd Independence Day of India.
  1. Raksha Bandhan celebrations on August 15

Raksha Bandhan falls on August 15 this year. This festival is a symbol of a strong bond and unconditional love of siblings. On this auspicious day, brothers visit their sisters’ homes. Sisters put tilak on their brothers’ forehead, tie rakhi on their wrists, pray for their happiness, success, and long life, and give them sweets. At the same time, brothers promise to protect their sisters and in return giving them Rakhi gifts.

Director Jagan Shakti releases his movie Mission Mangal on August 15. The movie is produced by Aruna Bhatia and Anil Naidu and written by R. Balki. Mission Mangal’s storyline is based on the true events of the Indian Space Research Organisation [ISRO] successfully launching the Mars Orbiter Mission [Mangalyaan], making it the least expensive mission to Mars.

Scientists played by Akshay Kumar as Vikas Kumar Pahariya, Vidya Balan as Tara Shinde, Taapsee Pannu as Kritika Aggarwal, Sonakshi Sinha as Eka Gandhi, Nithya Menen as Varsha Pillai, Kirti Kulhari as Neha Siddiqui, Sharman Joshi as Parmeshwar Naidu and H. G. Dattatreya as Ananth Iyer have contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission that marked the country’s first planetary mission. The two soundtracks include ‘Dil Mein Mars Hai’ and ‘Shaabaashiyaan’.

Along with Mission Mangal, another Bollywood movie titled Batla House, directed by Nikkhil Advani, starring John Abraham, Mrunal Thakur, Nora Fatehi, Ravi Kishan and many others releases on August 15.
