There are few people who manage to stay connected to their roots despite growing up in a foreign land. Singer Vee Kapoor, a singer-musician of Indian origin who spent his formative years abroad, is completely Indian in his sensibilities and ethos. The young musician is deeply interested in Indian classical music and this aspect of him comes to the fore prominently in the music he creates. Kapoor released a spiritual track called “Saavaro” with Times Music earlier this year and has been uploading cover versions of popular Bollywood numbers on his YouTube channel frequently.

Recently, Kapoor released an unplugged version of “Dekhte Dekhte”, a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan classic which was recreated by Rochak Kohli last year for the Bollywood film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. The video features Vee providing the vocals along with Luke playing the guitar.

About recreating this particular track, Vee says, “I have always loved the original qawwali composed and sung by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab and really admired the way Rochak recreated it. I have tried to give a humble tribute to the song by presenting it in my own way. I have added some intricate notes and a few more sargams to further embellish the track. I kept the arrangements very simple and used only a guitar as an accompanying instrument throughout the song.”

Vee plans to cover a few more hit Bollywood songs and release a new single in the near future. Share your views on Vee Kapoor’s latest albums!
