Cartoonist R. K. Laxman is a famous cartoonist for his eminent cartoon design ‘The Common Man’ from “You Said It” published on Times of India. Born on 24th October, 1921, Mr. Laxman was an expert in sketching ideal cartoons for his audiences. He passed away on 26th January, 2015 in Pune hospital because of multi-organ failure. He is survived by his wife Kamala Laxman, son Srinivas, daughter-in-law, and also his grand-daughter Mahalaxmi Laxman.

His Brilliant Career as a Cartoonist

The career of R. K. Laxman began as a cartoonist. He was into part-time job as a cartoonist for local newspapers and magazines. Then he took full-time job as a political cartoonist when he started working with The Free Press Journal in Mumbai. After that Mr. Laxman got associated with The Times of India and worked on his daily comic strip ‘You Said It’ from 1951.

R. K. Laxman even crafted well-admired mascot in the year 1954 for Asian Paints group ‘Gattu’. Few of his cartoons were displayed in Hindi movies like “Mr. and Mrs. 55”. He also produced beautiful cartoon sketches from television show named Malgudi Days that became very popular. Malgudi days was written by his brother R. K. Narayan.
