India is all set to host the International Hockey Federation’s Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 held at Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. It would be a grand affair of 19-days hockey tournament between sixteen teams, including India scheduled from 28th November to 16th December. The opening ceremony of Hockey World Cup is on Tuesday, 27th November. The sixteen teams are divided under four pools, who compete among each other to reach Cross-Overs, Quarter-finals, Semi-Finals and finally enter Finals to grab the Hockey World Cup.

Rank-wise India at No 5 in FIH rankings, is positioned in Pool C, alongside Belgium (Rio Olympics runner-up), Canada and South Africa. India will take on South Africa on Wednesday, 28th November on the first day of the tournament. Manpreet Singh leads the Indian side, while Chinglensana Singh is his deputy.

This would be the 14th edition of Men’s World Cup tournament starting from today. India is hosting the prestigious hockey tournament for the third time and it is the first time in Bhubaneshwar from 28th November to 16th December. The Odisha Government has declared holiday today for all the educational institutes in Bhubaneswar, and government and semi-government and financial offices closed from 1.30 pm onward. Bhubaneshwar has geared up with hockey fever. Kalinga stadium is beautifully decorated with colorful lights and flower plants. The city too is looking pretty much clean and the walls are nicely painted with designs related to hockey. Nearly 100 crore rupees are spent by the Odisha Government for renewing and infrastructure.

The opening ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup is inaugurated at Kalinga stadium from 6 pm onwards. The ceremony covers eight groups of classical 800 dancers performing a wonderful dance. Mumbai RJ Malishka and Raunak rock the stage and woo the audience. The main attractions of this evening are Cine Stars- Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh and AR Rahman performing on stage. Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik will be seen inaugurating the opening ceremony at Kalinga Stadium.
